St. Edmund's Church, Edmondbyers
St. Edmund's Church, Edmondbyers
The church is thought to have been built around 1150 AD, but some architectural details are Saxon in style. The church was restored in around 1740, when the adjacent rectory was built. In the early 19th C the single Norman arch between the nave and chancel was replaced by the triple arch seen in NZ0149 : St. Edmund's Church, Edmondbyers - nave. Further work was done later in the 19th C, including removal of the gallery at the west end, a three-deck pulpit and the 18th C box pews. {Source: Church leaflet.}
