A view of the multi-spoked roundabout that would be seen by a driver who had come off the section of Chalons Way/A6007 (behind and slightly to the right of the photographer) and who was then proceeding towards Cotmanhay via Heanor Road/A6007, i.e. beyond the open-type mineral wagon in the centre of the roundabout. Production at the Stanton Ironworks, later known as Stanton and Staveley, gradually declined and from 1985 the business was run by the French Saint-Gobain Group. The last casting was completed in 2007. The Aldi supermarket is located on a site once occupied by the Rutland Hotel. In 1831 Thomas Potter, a local businessman, built Ilkeston Bath that was attached to the Rutland Hotel and for over 60 years the baths helped to bring visitors to the town at a time when spa towns like Bath and Harrogate where also enjoying popularity.
