Cranmore station, 1987
Cranmore station, 1987
View westward, towards Mendip Vale, formerly towards Wells, Cheddar and Yatton, before the station was rebuilt in 1991 by the heritage East Somerset Railway, which acquired it 1972-85. The original Great Western line, Yatton - Wells - Witham closed 9/9/63, but goods Cranmore - Witham 17/1/66. On 19/8/70 a branch from Merehead Quarry nearby to Witham was opened and the stone traffic continues. Note the heritage ESR's Engine Shed in the distance.
