Bridge No.12, Erewash Canal, Sandiacre
Bridge No.12, Erewash Canal, Sandiacre
This Grade II-listed canal bridge by John Varley (1779) - identified as Bridge No.12 - is a hump-back "accommodation bridge" built to link two areas bisected by a canal. In this case, the bridge allows pedestrians from the left who have come from the Mill Road area of Sandiacre, and who have already crossed the River Erewash and a railway line, to continue walking through the field/s on the right that are situated between the canal and Ilkeston Road. St Giles' Church and Church Farm appear behind it.
