Avro Anson L7949 Crash Site

Dating from 19 September 1938. Anson L7949 was flying from Prestwick to RAF Newcastle. However, while flying over the Renfrewshire Heights, the pilot, Lt Cmdr John Charsley RM, encountered low cloud and mist. The aircraft came to grief shortly thereafter. Lt Cmdr Charsley set out to seek help shortly after the crash, reaching nearby Muirfauldhouse Farm where he raised the alarm. Remarkably, Charsley's crew also survived, namely Hubert Jordan, Percival Davidson and William Nichol.
