SK5963 : Clipstone Colliery - upcast shaft headgear

taken 12 years ago, near to Clipstone, Nottinghamshire, England

Clipstone Colliery - upcast shaft headgear
Clipstone Colliery - upcast shaft headgear
This is recognisably the upcast shaft as there is a containment around the headgear to prevent leakage of air. This particular headgear was designed to be used with a ground mounted Koepe winder and is claimed to be the tallest in Europe (along with the matching set on the downcast shaft). It is about to be demolished in the near future. Urban explorers have enjoyed the climb and the view in recent years.
