David Hume's tomb, Old Calton Burial Ground
The prominent obelisk in the centre of the picture is the tomb of the famous Edinburgh-born philosopher, David Hume (1711-76), author of a "Treatise of Human Nature". To the right of Hume's tomb, is a memorial to the Scottish-American soldiers who fought for the North during the American Civil War. It is the only one of its kind outside the United States.
