Middle Tongue, Blencathra
Middle Tongue, Blencathra
Blencathra is a large and complex mountain; in fact Alfred Wainwright devotes more pages in his series of guides to the Lake District fells to this mountain than to any other.
The view is from the mountain summit at Hallsfell Top across the vague rib of Middle Tongue, to Gategill Fell which is the ridge rising to a subsidiary top. A raven can be seen soaring close to that top.
A partial temperature inversion is in place and beyond its haze can be seen hills of the Western and North-Western Fells.
