Works on the New Burn culvert on Newburn High Street
Works on the New Burn culvert on Newburn High Street
This was the culvert that collapsed during floods in September 2012 causing huge damage to a block of flats at Spencer Court (upstream) NZ1665 : Spencer Court between Millfield Lane and Hareside Court, Newburn and several High Street properties in Newburn.

The business (KB Cycles), affected by the floods and the current works, occupies the premises of the former Fire Station NZ1665 : Monkchester old fire station
This was built in 1922 by Newburn Urban District Council close to Spencer Steelworks which was itself the employer of the volunteer firemen. Houses provided for them opposite the fire station became known locally as 'Fireman's Row'.
