Owl Butterfly, Wisley, Surrey
Owl Butterfly, Wisley, Surrey
Seen during the 'Butterflies in the Glasshouse' event of 2013. Butterflies in the genus Caligo are commonly called owl butterflies, after their huge eyespots, which resemble owls' eyes. They are found in the rainforests and secondary forests of Mexico, Central, and South America.

To say the least, this portion of the glasshouse was humid! With a cold temperature outside, it took at least ten minutes for the lens protector to stop continuously misting up. In one hour, I probably used the lens cloth as many times as I normally do in an entire year!
