The Old Repeater Station
Repeater stations were used to as a staging post in order to prevent attenuation of the signal strength as telephone signals were carried over long distances via copper wires.

The Old Repeater Station at Grindon is one such building which in 2004, no longer needed for its original purpose, was converted into a hostel/ bed and breakfast accommodation for travellers, walkers cyclists etcLinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . It is within approx 300 yards of Hadrian's Wall.
