View south east along Greenways above Abbey Mills Pumping Station
Greenways, a routeway for cyclists and walkers, has a variety of surfaces but always good views of the landscape in the Lower Lea Valley. This is the only part of London where overground electricity pylons have been allowed. These will disappear into tunnels made in 2007.
TQ3883 : Old Abbey Mills Pumping Station, Stratford. Part of Bazalgette's wondrous main drainage works. This building is a cruciform shape and each wing housed two beam pumping engines. These were later replaced by "Dalek"-like electrically driven units. Much better known than the nearby West Ham Pumping StationTQ3883 : West Ham Pumping Station
