Omagh High Street September 1959
Omagh High Street September 1959
Taken by Tony Whelan (my father) from the Court House steps looking down the High Street. Looking at the Google Streetview LinkExternal link from nearly the same view, the most noticeable thing is that the monument is missing apparently it was removed in 1966.

After initial posting I was sent the following by Kenny Allen - he has many photos on this site, including H4572 : Boer War monument, Drumragh Avenue, Omagh and H4572 : South African War Memorial: -
The Monument Bar, Ulster Hotel and the White Hart Hotel used to be to the right. The Monument Bar got its name from the Boer War monument which stood on the Courthouse Hill before being moved to the County Hall grounds in 1964 and now along Drumragh Avenue. Lettering to the right confirms that the building above the former hotel was named The County Bar (in 2016, it is Meyler and McGuigan, Solicitors).

Also from Penny Mayes:
Omagh council website used to include the following in their 'culture_leisure_and_tourism/things_to_do/activities/walking/' section:

"The Duchess of Abercorn unveiled the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers South African War Memorial on the 25th November 1904 in High Street where it remained until the 1960s when it was considered as a traffic hazard and re-sited to Drumragh Avenue. In grey granite, it is a memorial to the men of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who fell in the Boer war 1899 1902.
The central pedestal supports a bronze angelic figure with support on either side bearing a seated bronze angelic figure by Sidney March. The copper casts with names are by Elkington and Co."
