Trafalgar Dock Liverpool
Taken from my narrowboat as we left Liverpool along the new Liverpool Canal Link which is part of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
The Liverpool Canal Link opened 25th March 2009 and cost £22m; it connects the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, at Liverpool, to the South Docks, and finishes in Salthouse Quay where there are moorings for narrowboats.
The new link adds 1.4 miles (2.3 km) of navigable waterway to the canal system.
This section is through Trafalgar Dock which was filled in, but a narrow channel has been dug to enable the boats to cruise through. It was surprisingly shallow and the boat tipped sideways several times.
The tower is Victoria Tower which is a Grade 2 listed building and was constructed between 1847 and 1848, to commemorate the opening of Salisbury Dock.
It has fallen into a state of disrepair suffering significant decay due to both water and wind damage.
The wind turbines are The Port of Liverpool Wind Farm; there are four turbines built along the dock wall between Alexandra and Huskisson Docks, overlooking the River Mersey.
