The Wansdyke
The Wansdyke
Looking East along the Wansdyke, Horton Down is to the left and Tan Hill to the right.
A group of walkers are going up hill along the path, at this point 3 long distance trails share the path, The Wansdyke path, The Mid Wilts Way and The White Horse Trail.

The Wansdyke which is a post Roman defensive embankment and ditch that runs east to west from The Severn at Portishead to Inkpen Beacon in Berkshire, probably constructed between 400 & 600 AD.

A lot of the embankment has been ploughed under, fenced off or built over. This is one of the best sections and runs high above the Vale of Pewsey with far reaching views North and South.
