Plane tree and conifers in St Mary's Churchyard
The leafless tree is probably a fairly rare example in the provinces of a London Plane (Platanus x acerifolia or hispanica) which may well have been self-seeded in the churchyard. The seeds of this hybrid can be dispersed by the wind, but also by finches and squirrels.
Modern signs on mediaeval buildings often fall between stools. Whilst this artist eschewed making 'Ye Olde' into 'The Old'; he had clearly lost interest by the time he came to what should have been the 'Reindeere'.
