Memorial Spitfire at Edinburgh
Memorial Spitfire at Edinburgh
This aircraft will be familiar to all who visit Edinburgh Airport. It is a memorial to members of the 603 (City of Edinburgh) Squadron at Edinburgh Airport. Not sure what the aircraft actually is, since Spitfire Mk Ia ‘XT-D' (L1067) ‘Blue Peter' of No 603 Squadron was the personal aircraft of 603 [City of Edinburgh] Squadron Commander, Squadron Leader George Denholm DFC, who baled out of it on the 30th of August 1940 over Snargate, Kent after combat with a Bf 110.
