Colwith Bridge, Little Langdale: county boundary marker carving
Colwith Bridge marks what used to be the boundary between Lancashire and Westmorland and plays a crucial role in Beatrix Potter's late book "The Tale of Pigling Bland": if the title character and his fellow escapee Pigwig can get across the border into Westmorland they can no longer be sent to market and can instead settle in Little Langdale to grow potatoes.
