Copt Hill

Copt Hill is an ancient burial ground near Houghton-le-Spring. Archaeological research suggests that it dates from the Mesolithic period, at least 6,000 years and possibly up to 10,000 years ago. The site is marked by six trees. Presumably there used to be a seventh tree, as they are known as the Seven Sisters.

The site, which is a Scheduled Ancient Monument, is looked after by the Friends of Copt Hill. Their website has a lot more information about the burial site: LinkExternal link
