Splash Point
Splash Point
In rough weather at sea, the kink where the East Pier meets the cliff creates a sort of funnel that creates huge, exciting and dangerous waves to wash over the walls. Used to be a major part of alternative local entertainment, and doubtless still is judging by local liking for tombstoning on the West Pier. Even more courageous types even used to run down the steps to the wave-cut platform in the lull between monster waves. The path up the cliff (just visible)was also very precarious in a bad sea.
