ST0542 : The ford at Kentsford Farm

taken 9 years ago, near to Washford, Somerset, Great Britain

The ford at Kentsford Farm
The ford at Kentsford Farm
A three-way ford, with a tractor bridge that is submerged in floods and the original bridge for pedestrians. Also hidden in the bushes to the right of the bridge is a sluicegate for the papermill water intake channel. Sluices and leets are probably no modern phenomenon here, as the farm used to employ a water-meadow system. (I seem to remember there is still a building that used to be a watermill. Don't quote me on that!)
