A Guard Room at the Star Castle Hotel
A Guard Room at the Star Castle Hotel
Star Castle, in the form of an eight-pointed star, was built in 1593 and was for a long time an important defensive structure. Times, and needs, change and 80 years ago it was opened as an hotel.
In four of the eight corners there were Guardrooms (which seem to me more like observation posts). Three of these still exist, and have been converted into single rooms for hotel guests. They are, frankly, pretty small but the ambience makes up for everything. I stayed in the North Guardroom; but this photo is of the East Guardroom. For how long the chimney, leaning to the left, will survive is a matter of conjecture.
