NT8009 : River Coquet east of Makendon

taken 11 years ago, 3 km from Blindburn, Northumberland, England

River Coquet east of Makendon
River Coquet east of Makendon
In the bed of the River Coquet below Makendon there are exposed rocks of Silurian age (grey-green shales and greywackes) rarely found in Durham and Northumberland which are part of a Berwickshire formation which here extends over the Border. The Cheviot larvas cover the Silurian base rock platform to the east.
