Jack and Jill Windmills on the South Downs near Clayton
Jack, seen in the distance, is a brick tower-mill of 1876, but has now lost his sails. Jill is a wooden post-mill of 1821 and was brought here from Dyke Road in Brighton about 1850. The Jack and Jill Windmills Society have now fully restored Jill Windmill to working order and she now produces stoneground wholemeal flour on an occasional basis. Jill Windmill is owned by Mid Sussex District Council, whilst Jack Windmill is in private ownership. See LinkExternal link for more information.
