Cairn on Ceann Caol
It's an odd place for a cairn - there's no sign of a path, and to walk via its position would entail more ascent than a line following the old fence, visible at the right of the photo. Perhaps it was the only place with a sufficient supply of rocks when this ridge was visited by an inveterate cairn-builder with time on his hands ? There's a philosophy which says that cairns detract from wilderness value and visitors should destroy any which serve no lifesaving navigational purpose ... but it would have entailed a detour, and perhaps there's more to be said for the alternative philosophy of leaving things as you found them. The rusting old fenceposts detract from the wilderness value a lot more than the odd cairn !
