Breedon-on-the-Hill: priory church of St. Mary & St. Hardulph
The church stands prominently atop Breedon Hill and is on the site of a 7th-century monastery. A priory was established in the 1100s but by 1440 has fallen into disrepair. It was surrendered during the Dissolution in 1539 but the eastern portion of the church, which we see today, was kept as the parish church. (The tower, now at the western end of the building, was originally in the centre - the rest of the church was demolished.)
