A recent addition to the facilities of the island, the 'Am Politician' pub is named after the ship by that name which foundered off the island during WW2, and which inspired Compton MacKenzie to write the famous 'Whisky Galore'.

In the pub can be seen relics of the wreck, including part of its celebrated cargo.
