Geldie Lodge
Geldie Lodge
An abandoned shooting lodge, lost to the elements and bothy vandals in the post war years. Once it was connected to Mar Lodge (estate headquarters) by a road with bridges. The road is still there and is excellent, but two of the bridges have gone, so getting this far is weather dependent.
A northward view, past munro bagger's bikes towards Carn Cloich-mhuillin (942m/75m, right) and Beinn Bhrotain(1158m/258m).
Geldie Lodge
A former shooting lodge under An Sgarsoch in Glen Geldie. There is an access road from Linn of Dee (two big fords, once bridged but the bridges are long gone).

According to Brown and Mitchell the ground floor had been gutted by the early 1960s but folk were climbing upstairs and using the building as a bothy. It was a total ruin by 1987 when I first visited.

Carn Cloich-mhuillin :: NN5050
A top of Beinn Bhrotain and a prominent landmark in Glens Geldie and Dee, this hill is famous as being nominated by Sir Hugh Munro as his last three thousand foot hill. Easy of access for a big party and relatively close to home at Lindertis in Angus, it was probably chosen for practical reasons. Sadly events overtook him. Weather: most famously the 1897 Yacht Meet, kept him off the Inaccessible Pinnacle of Sgurr Dearg and there was the First World War. Sir Hugh Munro died during the following influenza epidemic and Carn Cloich-mhuillin and the Inn-Pin were the two munros, Sir Hugh never bagged.
To add insult to injury, since 1981 the Scottish Mountaineering Club have not included Carn Cloich-mhuillin in their list of separate 3000' hills - the one the munro baggers use.
