SE0742 : East Riddlesden Hall Dining Room
taken 11 years ago, near to Stockbridge, Bradford, England
Perched on a small plateau overlooking a bend in the River Aire, East Riddlesden Hall is a Grade I listed Manor House predominantly made of Yorkshire stone. The hall, which was built in 1642 by a wealthy Halifax clothier, James Murgatroyd is described as “a 17th-century manor house with an intimate and atmospheric interior” (Link Visit Bradford). It has associations with Yorkshire’s Civil War past and is home to a country garden, grass maze and duck pond. The stonework of the house has been darkened over the past 150 years by polluted air.
East Riddlesden Hall was also used a location for the filming of Wuthering Heights in 1992 and a TV adaptation of the same in 2009, and also the ITV mini-series “Lost in Austen” in 2008(Link IMDB).
Purchased by the National Trust in 1934, the hall is now a public visitor attraction and wedding venue.
