SK2966 : Profusion of cotton grass

taken 8 years ago, 3 km from Beeley, Derbyshire, Great Britain

Profusion of cotton grass
Profusion of cotton grass
A field had apparently reverted to heather moorland, but the heather has recently been cleared, allowing the cotton grass to take over with this stunning display. From a distance it looked like snow in June. There are several types of cotton grass, but they are strictly sedges and not grasses at all. The commonest is Eriophorum angustifolium. Sitchs plantation in the background.
