Looking south. Only one platform, as at present, trains from Edinburgh terminate here. However, the line is due to be extended a long way further south, to Gorebridge and then Galashiels, and possibly Carlisle. These extensions amount to restoring the acclaimed 'Waverley Route' of the North British Railway from Carlisle to Edinburgh.
