National Library of Scotland building, Causewayside
This new building was developed from the mid-1980s to replace its temporary accommodation on the site in the buildings of the former Middlemass Biscuit Factory.
The current building houses map library, science library, Scottish Business Information Centre, staff offices, and storage to meet demands of copyright library. The facing stone was sourced from Newbigging Quarry which had historically supplied much of Edinburgh's building stone, and which was reopened specifically for the purpose.
