Members of the Geograph walk arrive at the Hawse, the col between Arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crags. The gully in the background is known as the Gutted Haddie, due to its resemblance to an opened fish; it forms the base of the path leading up the southern face of Arthur's Seat.

Arthur's Seat is the highest peak in a set of hills in Holyrood Park. It rises to 251m (823ft) and gives panoramic views over the city of Edinburgh. it is most easily climbed from the east.
Geologically the hill is the remnant of a 350 million year old volcano and is associated with the nearby Salisbury Crags and Edinburgh Castle Rock.
