NS6426 : River Ayr Valley

taken 17 years ago, near to Nether Wellwood, East Ayrshire, Scotland

River Ayr Valley
River Ayr Valley
The valley here is more open than further downstream at its junction with the Greenock Water in NS6226. The moorland to the right of the river is the eastern end of Airds Moss. Coal seams are now quite close to the surface and are being mined by opencast methods to the right of Netherwellwood Farm lying beside the trees in the middle distance.
Sheep farming is still the main interest.
