The Guildhall, Thaxted
Reckoned to date from the late 15th century.
This building is so much wider at the eaves than at ground level that if it figured in a painting by Breughel or Bosch you might well dismiss it as fanciful. For me, it has to be one of the most memorable medieval timber structures in all England - along with the gatehouse at Stokesay Castle.
I had planned to be in Thaxted earlier in the day, but didn't get there until evening - and this rather ghostly image of the Guildhall was the result.
