Gordon Road at its junction with High Street. The three-faced wall clock was presented by the Lords Feoffes and Assistants of the Manor of Bridlington. When the Bridlington Priory estate’s responsibilities passed from the Augustinian canons to another authority - Sir George Ramsey - following the dissolution of the monasteries, the obligation to maintain the marine piers and the harbour proved such a financial burden on him that he was glad to get rid of this in the early C17th for the sum of £3,260. The purchasers of the responsibilities were twelve local men led by William Corbett to whom Charles I granted a charter giving various rights, privileges and duties. The administration was actually vested in a body of twenty five elected freeholders described as 'Lords Feoffes'; thirteen of who were designated Lords Feoffes and the remainder as Assistants. They exercised control over all public matters locally, fairs and markets and continued to hold their manorial courts until the custom was abolished in the mid C19th. They still meet twice a year to administer manorial properties, of which they are trustees.
