Lerwick: Anderson Widows’ Homes
The Widows' Homes, in Twageos Road, were built in 1865 by Arthur Anderson, a native of Lerwick and co-founder of the Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company (better known nowadays simply as P&O). They were intended as homes for the widows of fishermen and seamen and, although municipal since 1971, they still perform the same function under Lerwick Town Council.

See HU4841 : Lerwick: plaque on the Widows’ Homes for a close-up of the central inscription stone.
