Bauhaus - solar powered canal barge
Bauhaus - solar powered canal barge
The blue area on the side of this canal barge is an array of solar panels used to charge up a ton of batteries to run the boat's electric motor, cooking, lighting and heating. Notice the reflection - having the panels on the side of the boat means that the panels get both direct sunlight and light reflected off the water. There is a set of long descriptions of the barge and its technology on the Bauhaus Barge website LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) . The name comes from the Bauhaus school in Germany from 1919-1933, and "stands for the use of basic forms creating objects which are primarily functional, aesthetically pleasing, of high quality yet can be easily and cost-effectively mass produced."
