The Radar Pool, Cliffe - seen from Alleyn's Hill
The Radar Pool, Cliffe - seen from Alleyn's Hill
The pool takes its name from the radar tower on Alleyn's Hill. It is one of a number of old clay workings now managed by the RSPB. The Radar Pool is the most easterly, and the nearest to Cliffe village.

Here the view is from a point west of Alleyn's Farm, and the direction a little to the north of north-west. A distant clump of trees a little to the right of centre is at the Poplars: Link At the same level in the picture you can make out the Thames - as a narrow streak running across the picture. The higher ground in the far distance is across the river in Essex.

As I took the photo I could hear the 'tu-tu-tu' calls of greenshank - often heard here in July and August, when the birds are on passage south from their breeding quarters.
