For example, Link shows the location of the original entrance to this ground from Duncan Street. Some time after that entrance was created, the street was levelled, but it was greatly lowered in the process; the entrance, which was left high and dry, too far above the new street level, was subsequently closed.
To allow continued access to the Duncan Street burial ground, an opening – Link – was created between this ground and the adjacent (and earlier) NS2776 : Inverkip Street Burial Ground (up to that time, the grounds had been quite separate, though neighbours).

Duncan Street Burial Ground
This burial ground, created on land feued in 1816, is adjacent to the earlier Inverkip Street Burial Ground – Link – but it was, at first, separate from it (see Link for a more detailed history). An original entrance from Duncan St was closed after that street was levelled; an opening to the adjacent Inverkip Street Burial Ground was then created instead.
