The parts of The C.S. Lewis Nature Reserve further away from the present-day boundary of his former home on nearby Lewis Close are much steeper, partially due (perhaps ?) to the clay extraction operations that took place in the late C18th/early C19th. Walkers continuing onwards and upwards are able to access the former Royal Forest of Shotover, Shotover Country Park being situated on the steep hill above this reserve.
