SO1091 : The Regent Cinema, Newtown, Powys SO1091 : Regent Centre, Newtown SO1091 : Regent Cinema, Newtown SO1091 : Sinema'r Drenewydd / Newtown CinemaDesigned by County surveyor Thomas Penson and built in 1830-32 for local manufacturers The Flannel Exchange was a trading floor for woven cloth.
It was later used as the Post Office, housed the Assizes, provided a venue for concerts, exhibitions and lectures and public meetings.
It survived the 1964 flood
although the cellar must have suffered.
In recent years it has been a cinema and a night club both of which closed in 2017/18.
Currently being refurbished as The Steam Mill - a nod to the town's industrial history.
