Calderdale Industrial Museum - horizontal steam engine
Calderdale Industrial Museum - horizontal steam engine
This museum is mothballed but it is to be hoped that it will reopen with volunteer staff.

The engine is a horizontal single cylinder built by Newton, Bean & Mitchell of Bradford in 1926 and supplied to Alma Tannery, Pudsey. The Corliss valve cylinder is 14" x 24" and speed regulation is by a Bee governor. The engine was rated at 120 horsepower at 120 rpm on steam at 140-150 psi. The flywheel is 10' diameter. The engine ran until 1976-7 and I only just missed it seeing it run. I did see it in the closed tannery before its removal.
