The road in the foreground leads to NS4276 : Overtoun House; see the OS map for the road and for the nearby power lines that are visible in the background of the photo.

Across the area, a number of tracks like this one had been created in recent months to provide access to pylons (what most of us call pylons, the official notices refer to only as "OHL towers", i.e., overhead line towers). For example, similar tracks had been created at the riverside end of NS3977 : The Howgate at Dalquhurn, and beside the Murroch Burn where it flows under the Stirling Road (NS4077 : Murroch Burn from beside the A813).

These tracks were created in 2013 as part of an overhead line refurbishment project, which, according to the notices stuck on the gate, would involve the "reconductoring of phase and earth wires, replacement of all insulators and fittings, tower painting works, selected foundations upgrades, and all required accesses". The work was to involve the Scottish Power transmission section of the line from Windyhill Substation to Glen Mallan.

(The pole with the numbered orange top, on the left, is a gas pipeline marker. These previously had plain orange tops; the numbers were added to them only a few years ago.)
