SK1969 : Original Bridge

taken 11 years ago, near to Ashford in The Water, Derbyshire, England

Original Bridge
Original Bridge
The original bridge that carried the A6 over the River Wye until 1931, when a new, wider bridge was built upstream.
There is an inscription on one of the parapets which reads:- "M.Hyde 1664"
This is in reference to an accident where the Reverend Hyde was thrown from his horse and drowned. A detailed picture can be seen here:- SK1969 : Bridge Inscription
