NS2983 : Helensburgh Upper railway station
taken 11 years ago, near to Helensburgh, Argyll And Bute, Scotland
Helensburgh Upper is the town's "other" railway station. It is located on Sinclair Street, about one kilometre up the steep hill from the main station in the town (Helensburgh Central) Link .
Opened on 7 August 1894 by the West Highland Railway Company, the station is located on the world famous West Highland Line and is in fact now the most southerly station on that route since Craigendoran lost its West Highland Line services. The station lost much of its character when the line was singled, the island platform converted to a single line and the buildings removed.
Services are infrequent, but include a service to and from London Euston by means of the Caledonian Sleeper service.
