A 14th century knight and lady
A 14th century knight and lady
A marvellous early 14th century double tomb effigy in St.Stephen's church showing an armoured knight and his lady lying in bed together under a fluted blanket with their hands in prayer. Carved from a single block of stone c1325-35, they are popularly thought to be William of Bayeux and his wife, though when the effigy was displayed during the Tate Britain exhibition (September 2001 - March 2002) they were described as 'Armoured Knight and Lady'. Although unusual, this depiction isn't unique and another example can be found at nearby Stoke Rochford Link
