A brass plaque in the entrance to the Board School at Beamish Museum.
The plaque reads: (omitting log book entry in centre)
Built 1891. A typical Board School based on the one built by Tanfield School Board at East Stanley - a mining community. It was run by Durham County Education Department from 1902 until it closed in 1985.
The school and community grew with the collieries. Families attending the school were involved in the West Stanley Pit Disaster of 1909, when 168 men and boys were lost.....
School presented by Durham County Council, dismantled in 1989 and rebuilt 1991-1 with aid from the European Regional Development Fund and Tyne Tees Television.

Beamish Museum is an open-air museum located at Beamish, near the town of Stanley in County Durham. The museum's guiding principle is to preserve an example of everyday life in urban and rural North-East England at the climax of industrialisation in the early 20th century.
