This estate village, standing to the south of the River Teme, has many half-timbered buildings, both agricultural and domestic, some dating from before the Civil War. The castle has been in the ownership of the Harley family since 1309 - this family gave their name to Harley Street in London. In 1643 Royalists launched an attack on the castle, being held off by Lady Brilliana Harley and her garrison. St Barnabas Church was rebuilt in 1656, one of the few to be constructed during the Protectorate. In the Park are many venerable ancient trees. Coxall Knoll nearby is said to be the site of the last stand of Caractacus against the Roman invaders. Time taken 6.12 pm BST (British Summer Time).
