The two neighbouring villages of Ford and Etal (pronounced ee-t'l) lie in the valley of the River Till, between the Scottish Border and the Cheviot Hills. Historically they were dominated by rival families (the herons of Ford and the Manners of Etal) but in 1907 were combined as a single country estate owned by the Joicey family. The area is now promoted as a tourist destination, including the site of the Battle of Flodden Field. Official website: LinkExternal link
